You’ve probably heard friends around you trying out detoxification – or even tried it out yourself! Detox basically follows a certain diet or using certain products such as a detox drink which claims to be able to help you rid your body of toxins, improving health and also weight loss at the end of the process.

Did you know that our body can naturally eliminate toxins from our system and doesn’t require any special diets or products to do so thanks to these three organs – liver, colon and kidneys?

The Liverfilters out any toxic substances from the food we consume, keeping our bloodstream clean and free from these harmful substances.

The Colonconsists of bacteria that helps to encourage regular bowel movements, cleansing the colon.

The Kidneyfilters toxins from the blood and removes these toxins as urine.

Though our body is equipped to filter out toxins naturally, we can always try to improve our body’s system so that it can rid of toxins even more effectively by making sure that our organs are healthy and watching what we eat. Eating processed food regularly and sitting in front of your desk all day long without getting any exercise can be detrimental to your health.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, it is believed that the best way of detoxing is by sweating, vomiting and also nourishing the body. When you detox with TCM herbs, not only does it help in eliminating toxins, it supplies the body with nutrients as well to keep your body in the pink of health and hence less likely to fall sick easily.

1. Drink more water!

Reaching out for that bottle only when you feel thirsty? You should be drinking more than you think. Other than quenching thirst, water helps to regulate our body temperature and aids in digestion and nutrient absorption. It is also crucial in aiding our body in removing toxins as it is the vehicle that carries the toxins to be removed from our body in the form of perspiration, urination and breathing.

Antioxidants help to fight against free radicals which can damage the cells that are crucial to the removal of toxins from your body. Some well-known antioxidants to look for are vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, zeaxanthin and more. You can consume berries, cocoa, and vegetables and also drink coffee or green tea.

3. Get your beauty sleep.

Sleeping allows time for your body to rest and also renew itself, aiding in the detoxification process. One waste product that accumulate over the day is a protein called beta-amyloid. This protein is said to be a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s disease. Sleeping allows such waste products to be removed from the body. However, the number of hours of sleep is important as well. To promote good health, one should have seven to nine hours of sleep per night. You can also try herbs to help improve sleep

Sweet and sugary products can lead to many health complications, such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes and more. This disease will, in turn, interfere with the natural detoxification system.
