5 Anti-ageing Secrets Dermatologists Do Not Tell You

Are those skincare products actually doing more harm than good? Is your skincare routine good for your skin? Having a certified dermatologist friend will certainly make buying makeup and skincare products a whole lot easier! (and save on buying products that are ineffective!) Unfortunately, most of us would not be so lucky to have a derm in our circle of friends!

Here are 5 anti-ageing secrets that dermatologists normally do not let you in on!

Go Sugarless!

Did you know that sugar is inflammatory? Consuming sugar can cause inflammation, resulting in sallowness, wrinkles or blotchiness! Artificial sugar is harmful as it supplies excess amounts of fructose to the body. However, fructose from fruits and vegetables are fine as they only contain a small amount of fructose. If you have a sweet tooth, opt for fresh fruits like apples or peaches! Cut down on cakes, candies, soft drinks, chocolates and all those sweet pastries! TCM supplements for skin can be added as part of your diet too to aid in the rejuvenation of your skin.

Load Up Your Anti-oxidants

They are the main warriors to defend your skin from pollution, harmful sun rays and stress! Consume food which is high in anti-oxidant such as your berries, dark chocolates, kale, beans and also goji berries! Goji berries have been used for more than 2,000 years in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and are considered one of the superfoods as they are not only rich in antioxidants, they contain tons of vitamins and minerals too which are good for the body.

Other than loading up on antioxidants food, choose skincare products that contains antioxidants too!

Slather On More Sunscreen

Think your sunscreen is enough to protect you from those harmful rays? Truth is, most of us are probably not applying enough sunscreen. Opt for a sunscreen with a minimum of 30SPF, but the higher the better as it can give you protection for a longer period of time. That means you can put off reapplying sunscreen for a longer period of time!

A dime-size amount of sunscreen is how much is needed to give your skin adequate coverage. Apply it in two layers instead of applying it in one go so it will not seem too much.

Applying sunscreen once in the morning will not actually give you enough protection you need to protect your skin against those harmful rays, so reapply in the afternoon if you can! Don’t forget the rest of your body as well!

Beauty Sleep is Real

The Sleeping Beauty is not a beauty by coincidence – that’s because sleep can do wonders for the skin! Getting eight hours of sleep a day allows time for your skin to repair as that’s the time where your growth hormones go up. But be sure to remove all your makeup and sleep with a fresh and clean face for the cellular repair to take place!

Sleeping Position

As much as the duration of your sleep matters, so does your sleeping position! Sleeping on your sides or on your stomach can create new wrinkles or reinforce existing wrinkles. Sleep on your back as far as possible to keep your skin flat and smooth.
