Mix a half a teaspoon of salt with a glass of water. For effectiveness, mix the salt to a glass of warm water that will help to soothe the throat better. However, as this remedy requires gargling, it is not recommended for children under 6 as they’re probably not good at gargling yet.

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that may reduce coughing and also nausea and pain! Add some fresh ginger slices to boiling water and let it simmer for a few minutes. After cooling the ginger water for a while, add some honey or lemon to taste. 

6. Bromelain

Sound like some chemical ingredient? If you love pineapples, you’ll be glad to know that bromelain is an enzyme that is only found in pineapples! Bromelain is effective for reducing inflammation in the body and can help in suppressing coughs as well. However, for those who are taking blood thinners or certain medications, bromelain should not be taken.
