7 HOME REMEDIES FOR LOW BLOOD PRESSURE

Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension affects lesser people as compared to high blood pressure. Low blood pressure during pregnancy is also normal and common.

But if there is a sudden dip in blood pressure, it can be as dangerous as high blood pressure. Many people might not even realize they have low blood pressure if they do not go for health checks as the signs and symptoms of low blood pressure are not easy to spot.

While medications can treat low blood pressure, it is not commonly prescribed to patients unless it is severe. Here are 7 home remedies which can help to control your blood pressure and avoid it from sudden dip!

1. Eat more salt

We’ve heard how consuming less salt is healthier, but a low-sodium diet is not necessarily fit for everyone. Contrary to popular belief, an increase in salt intake can be beneficial!

For people with low blood pressure, increase salt intake by drinking salt water moderately to raise blood pressure or consume healthy food that is naturally high in sodium. Some foods are spinach, celery and carrots.

2. Drink water

Low blood pressure may be due to low body fluids. Drink more water to increase your blood volume and it might bring your blood pressure back to the normal range.

Drinking 8 glasses of water per day also brings many other health benefits, such as improving your bowel movements and preventing dehydration.

3. Coffee

If you are experiencing a dip in blood pressure such as giddiness, quickly reach for a cup of coffee or any other caffeinated drinks.

The caffeines in the drinks can temporarily give your heart rate a boost, improving blood circulation and causing a spike in blood pressure.

4. Avoid changing positions quickly

Do you find yourself getting giddy when you suddenly stand up after sitting down for awhile? That’s because your heart is not pumping enough blood to all parts of the body to adapt the sudden change.

If you need to stand from a sitting down position or change your position, do it slowly. Find a wall to lean on or something to hold onto while you stand up slowly instead of jumping onto your feet quickly!

5. Eat many small meals

Many experience a sudden drop in blood pressure after mealtime. Snacking in between meals throughout the day can help to keep your blood pressure constant.

The best practice is to have five to six small meals per day. This is also good for people with diabetes!

6. Wear compression stockings

You might have seen many wearing compression stockings to slim the legs while they sleep at night. Other than beauty, compression stocking is a good preventive measure to stop blood from pooling in the legs.

This helps to regulate blood flow by ensuring that blood flows back to the heart and lungs. It can also help to relieve any pains associated with varicose veins in the legs.

7. Almond milk

Soak five to six roasted almonds overnight. Make them into a paste and add it to your cup of milk. Bring it to boil. Drinking almond milk everyday can help to prevent your blood pressure from falling!

Almonds are also a rich source of Omega-3 which is healthy for your heart and brain!
