Nosebleeds is a pretty common occurrence in young kids- almost everyone experiences a nosebleed in their lifetime. It may be due to a fall, or when you picked your nose too hard, or it may happen just suddenly while you’re sitting at your desk doing your work as usual. This often happens when the lining of your nose becomes too dry due to the environment you are, whether its the winter season or due to air conditioning.
While these reasons are not any cause for alarm, sometimes a nosebleed can happen due to an underlying medical reason. Certain medications can cause the lining of your nose to thin, causing a nosebleed. However, it may also be a sign of nasopharyngeal cancer. If a nosebleed does not occur frequently, it is pretty safe to say that usually, the cause for nosebleeds are not serious.

While many experience nosebleeds once in a while, some have as many as 2-3 nosebleeds per week. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the cause of a nosebleed is due to the functioning of major organs such as the lungs, stomach and intestines.
When the lungs have excess heat, the heat can be passed through the nose, making the nose dry and more susceptible to nosebleeds. Herbal medicine or TCM treatment will then aim to dispel the heat present in the lungs.
For people with constipation, they might find themselves experiencing nosebleed more often than others. When stools are stored in the intestines for a prolonged period of time, this can cause heat which is then transferred to the nose. To stop nosebleeds, treatments will help to relieve constipation.

1. Chrysanthemum Tea
Chrysanthemum flowers are known for its cooling properties. TCM stores in Singapore usually sell dried chrysanthemum flowers as well as ready-made ones. Steep dried chrysanthemum flowers with rock sugars for taste. This is good for nosebleeds due to excessive heat in the lungs.
Locate the point between your right thumb and index finger called the Valley of Harmony. Apply pressure and hold for 2 minutes. Repeat this on the other hand.
3. Hot Foot Bath
Soak your feet in a foot bath for around 20 minutes. This should help to guide the heat in your body down and stop nosebleeding.
