Depression
Depression can happen to anyone at any age. Despite being a sunny island, depression in Singapore is more common than you think. Depression is the more common form of mental disorder, with one in sixteen Singaporeans experiencing it at some point in their lives. However, the statistics might be even higher as most depression cases go unreported.
Compared to females, males are more prone to depression as it is often perceived as a sign of weakness. Many males will therefore choose to suppress their emotions, which leads to a higher chance of these negative emotions developing into depression. It is important to recognize that it’s perfectly normal to express your feelings and it’s healthy to reach out to someone who can lend you a listening ear.
