There are tons of varieties of oysters, but did you know that all of them originate from 5 different species? The five different species are Pacific Oysters, European Flat Oysters, Kumamotos Oysters, Olympia Oysters and Atlantic Oysters. Not only do they grow in different water, but you can tell them apart from their shells too.

For example, the Kumamotos Oysters have small and rounder shells compared to the European Flat Oysters which have large and straight shells. The shells of Kumamoto Oysters are also pale in comparison with the Olympia Oysters which have a slightly iridescent colour.

营养素及其益处

A commonly-known fact about oysters is that they are a great source of Zinc. Zinc is essential for the body to carry out different biochemical processes. Did you know that it helps to break down carbohydrates as well? Eating a single serving of oysters will give you more than 1500% of the daily requirement of Zinc!

Other than 提高男士的表现和性欲外,,did you know that oysters are great for weight loss? For those who are losing weight and love eating oysters, here’s a piece of good news – oysters are low in calories! They have only nearly half the calories compared to an equal serving of chicken.

Oysters are also rich in vitamin B12, which helps to keep the body’s nerves and blood cells healthy. High in iron, eating oysters can help to produce more haemoglobin, aiding in the transport of oxygen to all parts of the body.

Other than vitamin B12, oysters are also rich in vitamin D which is good for promoting bone health, improving the immune system and inflammation.  The best source of vitamin D is sunlight, but if you’re not getting enough sun exposure to generate vitamin D in the body, consuming oysters is a good alternative.

Oysters are also good for heart health due to their high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Although the more common source of omega-3 fatty acids is oily fish such as salmon, oysters actually contain a decent amount too. Having high levels of omega-3 fatty acids can help to reduce reduce bad cholesterol, minimizing the accumulation of plaque.
